Remembering!

My Dad and Grandad. Both in the military their whole lives.
My dad never had to go to war, but my Grandad served in both WW1 and WW2
I have some telegrams to my grandma telling her he was missing in action and presumed dead.
Turns out he was buried when a bomb went off near him. They didn't find him for 2 days.
My other grandad left for WW2 when my mom was 4. He didnt see her again til she was 10!
Wow...

2 of my all time favourite pictures are here
One is my dad with his dad and a buddy at some military function when my dad was young
the other of my dad inspecting me at a Parade. We both started smiling when he started to give me grief on the shine on my boots!

My maternal grandfather served in WW1 and lived the rest of his days shell shocked. I was to young I think for him to tell me any stories yet, He never complained.

My grandmothers brother was badly injured in the same conflict when a shell exploded near him. He returned home worked, got married, raised a family and even did his own yard work. All this with a fused knee, loss of one arm and being blind in one eye.

Warms my heart to see you honor your father and grandfather.

Thanks.
